New Tunes Tuesday: THEESatisfaction
You can accuse me of a “Get off my lawn” level of old-fogeyness, but I remember when rap records 1. Involved real instruments 2. Had something to say besides “Look how great I am,” and 3. Were rock solid the whole way through. No skits, no tossed off half songs, but records containing nothing but viable tracks. All killer, no filler. To the abyss of modern rap we now face, I present THEE Satisfaction, which became my latest obsession through fellow modern rap geniuses Shabazz Palaces (the two gals in TS appear on the Shabazz Palaces record “Black Up”). I heard the TS record playing on the overhead speakers during a recent stop in my local record shop and the album slowly worked its way under my skin as I shopped. By the time I was checking out, I added to the clerk, “Oh, and whatever’s playing, I’ll take that.”

“Enchantruss,” is a great example of the sound of this record. Brassy and assured, this track shows off their jazz sensibilities and also their playful nature.
